A leading developer of large-scale alternative power generation systems needed to fill the new position of Vice President, Service Operations in order to create and implement a strategic plan to develop and market new products and service concepts, including an aftermarket parts, maintenance and repair service business for its distributors. In addition, the position would assemble and manage the company's field service installation, test and conditioning, rework and warranty groups.
The challenge was to identify a candidate who not only had proven success managing large-scale capital projects as a profit center, ensuring that each contract was completed in accordance with specifications, on schedule, within budget, beginning with the sale and continuing through engineering, manufacturing, installation and startup, but also someone who could deliver these services through the client's distributors as a profit-making business.
Recognizing that the power industry tends to operate more conventionally than emerging technology companies, the solution was to identify and attract the head of operations of a leading provider of products and value-added services to the fast-paced aviation/aerospace industry. Needless to say, the successful candidate had excellent communications skills and proven ability to work effectively within an entrepreneurial environment.
